SIRIUS S50 with CAR DOCK
These instructions are for users connecting their S50 to a PC via a CAR Dock with USB cable. If you have a Home Dock, you will need to follow the Home Dock updating instructions found here.

1. You should have My SIRIUS Studio™ (Version 1.0.2.6923) open on your computer. Your S50 should be undocked and turned off (powered down.)
2. Connect your S50 to your computer using the USB cable supplied with your S50. A picture of the S50 will appear on the right of My SIRIUS Studio™ when connected. (See Fig. 1)

3. In My SIRIUS Studio, click on the gear icon next to the S50 picture and then click on 'Check For Software Update'. (Fig. 2)

4. If newer versions of S50 Software are available, click the Update Software button to download the S50 updates. (Fig. 3)

5. A new browser window will appear when you've successfully completed the download (Fig. 4).

Step 2: Completing the Software update procedure
Following the software install, there are four potential update stages you will need to go through to complete the update procedure.

1. An update to the software that operates your S50
2. An update to the software contained within your S50's car dock
3. An update to the firmware contained within your S50
4. Updating the SIRIUS channels

Stage 1: Complete the S50 software update

1. On your computer, make sure you've successfully downloaded the S50 application software updates. Press okay when you see this window. (Fig. 5)

2. From the My SIRIUS Studio software, press the eject icon to eject the S50 from your computer. (Fig. 6)

3. Wait for the S50 picture to disappear from the My SIRIUS Studio window. Disconnect the USB cable from the S50 after your computer has displayed the Safe to Remove Hardware message (Fig. 7)
   

   IMPORTANT: DO NOT PLACE THE S50 IN A DOCK AT THIS TIME!

4. Once you've disconnected the USB cable, the S50 will display "Restart to Update" and will power off within approximately 10 seconds. (Fig. 8)

5. Once the unit is completely powered down, press and hold the Playlist/Power  button on the S50 to turn the S50 back on. (Fig. 9)

6. Once it powers on, the S50 will display "SOFTWARE Updating…" and will complete the software update. This takes about 1 minute. (Fig. 10)

7. When the software update is complete, the "Update Complete!" message will be displayed and the S50 will turn itself off. Stage 1 complete! Proceed to Stage 2. (Fig. 11)

Stage 2: Complete the S50 car dock software upgrade

1. Place you S50 in the Car Dock. Make sure the Car Dock is receiving power, by starting your vehicle or turning the ignition key to ‘accessories'. Make sure your Car Dock is receiving a strong SIRIUS signal, by being parked outside with a direct view of the sky above.
2. Stage 2 of the update process should begin automatically. If it doesn't, you may need to undock and re-dock your S50 to power it back on.
3. Once it powers on, the S50 will display "CAR DOCK Updating…" and will complete the car dock software update. (Fig. 12)

4. When the S50 car dock update is complete, the blue LED lights on the car dock will flash multiple times. Then the S50 will display an "Update Complete!" message (Fig. 13) and the S50 will either turn itself off or proceed directly to Stage 3.

Stage 3: Complete the S50 firmware upgrade

1. Stage 3 should begin automatically. If it doesn't, you may need to undock and dock your S50 to power it back on. Make sure your S50 is receiving a strong SIRIUS signal.
   
   IMPORTANT: DO NOT UNDOCK THE S50 AT THIS TIME
   
   
2. Once it powers on, the S50 will display "Firmware Updating…" followed by "Updating, xx% complete".  The percentage will increase as the update progresses. (Fig. 14)  It takes approximately 5-8 minutes to complete the update.

3. When the update is complete, the S50 displays the "Update Complete!" message for 2 seconds and then powers off (Fig. 15)

Stage 4: Updating the SIRIUS Channels

1. S50 should continue the update process automatically. If it doesn't, you may need to undock and dock your S50 to power it back on. Make sure your S50 is receiving a strong SIRIUS signal.
   
   IMPORTANT: DO NOT UNDOCK THE S50 DURING THIS PROCESS
   
   
2. Once placed in a dock with a SIRIUS signal, the S50 will begin updating the channel list. You will receive an 'Update Complete!' message when the channel list has been updated. (Fig. 16)

TROUBLESHOOTING
If your SIRIUS S50 stops working or freezes when the SIRIUS dog logo appears on screen, it may be necessary to reset your radio channels in order to proceed. To do this, press the Setup button  and navigate to Device Settings followed by Reset Channels. Your S50 must be docked in the dock and receiving a SIRIUS signal for this process to work. You will first see a message reading: 'Resetting channels,' followed by a 'Please Wait' message and then 'XX% Complete.' (Fig. 17)

Verifying Successful S50 Update

1. Open My SIRIUS Studio™ on your computer.
2. Switch off your SIRIUS S50. Wait 10 seconds to make sure it is completely shut down. Then connect the S50 to your computer using the USB cable supplied with your S50. A picture of the S50 will appear on the right of My SIRIUS Studio™ when connected. (See Fig. 18)
3. In My SIRIUS Studio, click on the gear icon next to the S50 picture and then click on 'Check For Software Update'.

4. The window will display your S50's current application software and the latest software update available from SIRIUS (Fig. 19). Following the update process, these numbers should match. If they don't, click on the 'Update Software' button and repeat the update process.

Q: In My SIRIUS Studio™, I have clicked on 'Check for Software Updates' but the window only displays my S50's current software version number and reads: 'Check internet connection to enable update.' (Fig. 20)
A: This indicates that you've lost your active Internet connection. Check your Internet connection and click on 'Check for Software Updates' again.

Q: When it is supposed to be updating the channels, my SIRIUS S50 freezes on the SIRIUS logo.
A: If your SIRIUS S50 stops working or freezes when the SIRIUS dog logo appears on screen, it may be necessary to reset your radio channels in order to proceed. To do this, press the button and navigate to Device Settings followed by Reset Channels. Your S50 must be docked in a car or home dock and receiving a satellite signal for this process to work. You will first see a message reading: 'Resetting channels,' followed by a 'Please Wait' message and then 'XX% Complete.'

Q: What will happen if I do not perform the update?
A: The update fixes a condition that causes increased muting under certain signal conditions.

Q: If I am experiencing the service disruption, can I still update?
A: Yes you can, please follow the update instructions.

Q: Why can't I use a higher version number of My SIRIUS Studio to update my S50?
A: My SIRIUS Studio v1.0.2.6923 is the latest version for S50.  Higher version numbers were developed to support the Stiletto product line.

Q: How do I check what version of My SIRIUS Studio software is on my computer?
A: The version number is located at the top of the program window or go to the Help menu and click on About My SIRIUS Studio. Only version v1.0.2.6923 supports your new S50 Software download.

Q:  Where can I download My SIRIUS Studio software?
A:  Go HERE for My SIRIUS Studio V1.0.2 for S50.

Q:  What are the PC requirements for updating using My SIRIUS Studio?
A:  The PC operating system must be either Windows 2000 or XP.  The PC must have a USB port for connecting to the S50 and must be connected to the Internet. If you have another Windows operating system, such as Vista, please refer to our alternative updating instructions located here. SIRIUS S50 is not compatible with Mac operating systems.

Q. What improvements can I expect once I update my S50 to V1.5.6?
A. You can expect several improvements to your S50 from this update”

• Bookmarking functionality for schedule recording playback. Now you can pick up where you left off while listening to all your schedule recording content after turning the unit off and on again.
• Preventing your united from locking up following power fluctuations (like being switched on and off very rapidly.)
• Fixed issues with some recorded SIRIUS content not being able to be played back.
• Fixed artist and song title and icon representations during playback
• Minor user interface improvements.
